Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC Vs Apple's A16 Bionic

Snapdragon 8 G 2

The first measurements carried out on a Vivo smartphone equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 allow us to get an idea of the power of the new chip from Qualcomm, but also to compare it to the SoC A16 Bionic from Apple.

Qualcomm has just announced its new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which will equip new high-end smartphones next year. According to the manufacturer, the SoC is up to 35% faster than the previous generation for the CPU part and up to 25% faster for the GPU part. In addition, its energy efficiency increases by 40% for the CPU and 45% for the GPU.

Is that the case? AnTuTu and Geekbench test results have just been released by our colleagues at Deal n Tech. These results come from a Vivo smartphone whose name has not been revealed, but which could be the next X90 Pro+ 5G model. This makes it possible to compare the Qualcomm chip to the manufacturer's previous SoCs, but also to Apple's A15 Bionic and A16 Bionic circuits, which equip the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro respectively.

First, here are the scores for the Qualcomm SoCs, with the gains obtained between successive models for each test:

Score-Snapdragon benchmarks Apple's chip

Compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the second-generation chip offers a performance gain of 21.86% under AnTuTu, 19.6% for Geekbench single-core measurements and 22.31% for multi-core measurements.

Now let's compare the Snapdragon Gen 1 and Gen 2 to Apple's A15 and A16 chips, with Geekbench benchmarks. For Apple's chip measurements, we used our tests of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.

score simple

For the single-core test, Apple's chips take the lead with respective gains of 17.4% and 26.9% over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Score-multi-V2

For the multi-core test, the results are more nuanced. The A16 Bionic chip is 9.2% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but the latter gets a 10.9% gain over Apple's A15 Bionic.

These first tests show the advantage of the A16 Bionic over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but we will have to wait for the arrival of the terminals next year to see if this advantage is confirmed.
